Ushering in the special light of the the Shabbat candles, allows for a spiritual light to rest within the home.  In Kabbalah and mysticism, it is explained that Shabbat is the day that brings illumination to our world, which so often seems to be dark. 
 
This Mitzvah is near and dear to my heart, and naturally I was inspired to paint this piece to explore those peaceful feelings that come about as I light the candles.
